01 Eat right, not expensively
Your immune system does not need rare delicacies. Simple food, meals on time and a balanced diet are what matter. Prioritise quality protein, vitamins and minerals, and remember the simple rule: half of every plate is vegetables, a quarter staples, a quarter protein. Enough nutrition means stable immunity.
Ten staple foods your immune system likes best: millet, black rice, pumpkin, taro, purple sweet potato, corn, brown rice, oats, buckwheat, quinoa.
02 Move, don't sit still
Get sunlight, spend time outdoors, exercise regularly.
The World Health Organization recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of high-intensity activity each week.
Regular exercise makes immune cells more active, but the key word is "moderate" — overtraining suppresses immunity instead. Consistent, everyday movement is enough.
03 Sleep enough, don't sleep it off later
Chronic sleep loss directly weakens your immune cells. Aim for 7–8 hours a night, keep your schedule fixed, and let your immune system recharge properly.
04 Cut stress, don't buy supplements
Chronic stress is an invisible killer of immunity and suppresses immune function. Spend 10–15 minutes a day on mindful breathing or stretching, socialise more, keep a hobby. Reducing stress is strengthening immunity.
05 Avoid the three immunity traps
- Trap 1: stronger is not better. Balance is healthy; an overactive immune system can trigger allergies or autoimmune disease.
- Trap 2: healthy people do not need supplements. A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle beat any health product.
- Trap 3: stop wearing an N95 everywhere and spraying disinfectant over yourself the moment you get home, keeping every germ out of the house. Immune cells need contact with small amounts of bacteria to build experience. Turn your home into a sterile room and they become cosseted rich kids who collapse at the first breeze.
There is no shortcut to better immunity. Eat three proper meals, sleep enough, move regularly, keep your mood steady — that is the strongest foundation for your body's defences.
